The wall saga...

This wall was not level, once Robert got started fixing it, he ended up just tearing the whole wall out and starting over.




So, now what do we do?

Here is the living room and the porch. The door where Megan is standing leads to the master bedroom. There are five doors leading to the porch. Three in the living room and two in Drew's room. The porch is one of my favorite things about this building.

First look upstairs

This is a picture of the "kitchen" . Notice the utility sink and homemade cabinets. There is a stove top, but no oven. We plan to tear out the wall the fridge and sink are on and the wall on the oposite of the fridge as well.

This bathroom was on the other side of the wall that the fridge and sink are on. We will keep the tub though and refinish it.

Talk of opening a quilt shop.

I had been talking with my quilting friends about opening a quilt shop. We thought that north Atlanta could support another shop. We had conversations about what we would want in a shop. Where would we locate it. What would the name be. What classes we would offer. Robert and I looked at some places in North Atlanta, but we felt like we were just dreaming, because real estate in Alpharetta is very expensive.

In January while I was visiting our daughter Megan who lives in Augusta. I stopped to look at this building. Megan had been telling us we needed to look at it, so I finally did. It was built in 1916 as a grocery store. It has an apartment on the second floor and the last business on the ground floor was a Chinese Restaurant. It was in rough shape, but I felt like it had potetial. I called Robert to come to Augusta and to look at the building. He did, and brought two of our best friends. Beth and Don Leonard. It was an interesting mix. Beth, Robert and I could see the potential. Don could see the expense and the work. I will admit that the apartment overwhelmed me. I could see the potential for what would be the shop on the first floor, especially with Beth there. Anyway we made an offer and got the building.

Intoduction

Hi, my name is Kathy and I started quilting 10 years ago, just before my family moved from Colorado to Georgia. I was a "leisure" quilter for about three years. I finished the first two quilts I started in Colorado. I made a T-shirt quilt for my daughter Megan's High School graduation. Which really got me hooked.

In 2003 after my Mom passed away, my friend Debbie not knowing what to say, took me to a local quilt shop to look at fabric and patterns that we could work on together. Thus began what we affectionately called "Fabric Therapy". We each made the Thimbleberries quilt, Pansy Park together. Since that time we have made several quilts together. I really became an avid quilter. I love it the fabric, the creating, and especially the quilting.

In 2005 I bought a long arm machine. Debbie and I began quilting our quilts. We started a buisness making t-shirt quilts and machine quilting for others.

In the process several of our friends began quilting as well. It has been fun to see the creativity and style of our friends shine through in their quilts.
