First attempt at a layout for the shop.

The left front corner are the doors, with a counter. Behind the counter is the cutting table. All the pink things in the middle are the shelves that I already have. Along the back wall to the right will be the classroom space. At the bottom of the classroom space is my office. The top of the drawing it where the old kitchen used to be. To the left is a break room, using one of the old booths and seats from the Chinese restaurant. The middle section will be a kids area. To the right storage. The bathroom is actually using up part of the floor space, but I thought it would be better than having to build a ramp, to put it where the kids area is going to be. There is a step up there from before. The black squares are all "I" beams. Cool huh?

The relay for life donation quilt.

Here's a picture of the Relay for Life donation quilt. Yea! I did get it finished. This quilt is a block of the month from Little Quilts in Marietta. It is actually the same pattern as the batik quilt that Beth and I worked on, on the quilt retreat a few weeks ago. I did make this one smaller, only nine squares, just so I could finish it sooner. It will make a good snuggle on the couch and watch movies quilt.

The rebuilding of the downstairs wall begins.

Robert has done a lot of demo downstairs. He has torn out walls and ceiling tiles and lights and tile......so now the rebuilding begins. I'm not sure what to say about the walls except, I know it will be better when he is done.

He cut concrete to drop the sewer line down into it so the bathroom can be on main floor and not up where the kitchen was, so we won't have to build a ramp. And he pour some concrete to stabilize the wall. I'm very thankful that he knows what he is doing.

While Robert was rebuilding the wall I was......

quilting the quilt that I am going to donate to work for Relay for Life. My goal is to give it to them on Monday. All that is left is to square it up, and bind it and put a label on it. Hopefully I will get it done tomorrow.
I enjoyed quilting it with leaves and swirls. It did make me realize how much I miss quilting with my friend Debbie.

A-pig-in-a-poke.

Robert went over and met the attorney that owns the infamous parking lot next to our house. Robert wanted to give him a heads up on the fact that we would be starting construction downstairs, which would mean repairing the wall, that has been damaged because of water from the parking lot berm being up against the wall. The attorney was cordial, however he said we had bought a "pig-in-a poke." Whatever that means. Well, our friend Ellie sent me this definition:
Pig-in-a-poke is an idiom that refers to a confidence trick originating in the Late Middle Ages, when meat was scarce but apparently rats and cats were not.The scheme entailed the sale of a "suckling pig" in a "poke" (bag). The wriggling bag actually contained a cat—not particularly prized as a source of meat—that was sold unopened to the victim. A common colloquial expression in the English language, to "buy a pig in a poke," is to make a risky purchase without inspecting the item beforehand. The phrase can also be applied to accepting an idea or plan without a full understanding of its basis.
Well, he could be right we may have bought a pig-in-a-poke, but it is ours and we like it.

Let there be more light.

So, when we having wiring done we didn't think about having a light over the dining room table. So, we have been using a stand up lamp and a table lamp for light. Well, since the electrician was coming today we had him wire a light over the table. I went and turned it on a couple of times, because I really like it and it is nice to have a light over the table.

He also put a light in the dark hall. The light switch that was in the hall operated the light in Drew's bedroom so he actually has a light switch in his room now too. Wow, the Mullis' are moving on up...

The quilting, sewing, office, bedroom.

So, you know how you aren't supposed to have any other function for your bedroom... Well, our bedroom has now added a quilting machine to the mix of it's functions. I am excited though to finally have it together even if it is in the middle of our bedroom. I think I will spend the weekend quilting. Thanks, Robert for being patient with this arrangement.

A pile of quilts.

Going on the quilt retreat and finishing the batik quilt inspired me to finish up some quilts I had started.
So, here is a picture of the pile of seven, yes seven quilts and their backing that I have finished in the last couple of weeks.
(several of them I started last year)

Here they are laid out on my bed. Now, I can quilt them! Yea! Anyone want to come a quilt with me?

Easter.

Today was a beautiful day. I love Easter. I became a Christian on Easter when I was fifteen years old. It was the first time I had really heard what Easter was all about. I may have been told before, but it was the first time I really heard it with my heart. Today 30 years later I am struck again at the magnitude of what God was willing to do to reconcile the world to Himself. I am so thankful for Jesus and what He did for me. And I am amazed at the power of His resurrection.
We spent the afternoon with friends at the park. We had lots of fun celebrating in the gloriousness of the day with friends and family.

Pictures of the day.

Kathy and Megan wearing dresses.

The Easter egg hunt. There was a 2 year old among the 20 somethings also hunting. These, my friends are our future health care professionals.

Residents/employees past

I was working on the shop and was outside and a young guy in a car at the light asked me what we were doing with the apartment. I said we had renovated it and were living there. He said he lived there as a kid when Madison Woo had the Chinese restaurant below. A few months ago the same thing happened. A guy came by and said he had worked at the grocery store as a teenager. Urban Violence

I was walking the dogs down Greene street and heard a squawking above me. Then I heard something hit the tree branches, fall through the branches, and hit the ground with a thud. On the ground was a hawk and a young duck. Apparently the hawk caught the duck in flight and they crashed into the tree. Both flew away, one hungry and one blessed. Robert

O the wonderful cross.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=XiTIHdp5NVs&feature=related

Navigation: C \ Chris Tomlin \ The Wonderful Cross
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride

See from his head, his hands, his feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did ever such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown

O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
All who gather here by grace draw near and bless Your name

Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing, so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all

Psalm 139

Psalm 139
For the director of music.

Of David. A psalm.
1 O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue,
you know it completely, O LORD.
5 You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake, I am still with you.
19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD,
and abhor those who rise up against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Men's prayer breakfast guys get roped into moving out the old stove.

Wes wanted you to know that when Robert asked the guys from Wednesday morning prayer breakfast to help move some metal he said it was a "sheet of metal". Robert countered saying no he said a "piece of metal". Well the guys from the Well, helped move a 640 lb piece of the old stove to Robert's truck this morning. The good news no injuries, the big old greasy thing is out of the shop, and with little to no effort Drew took it to the salvage yard and made $50.00. Personally, I think Robert and Drew should buy the guys breakfast. Thank you,
Jeremy, Reggie, Wes, Chris, Andy, Robert and Drew.
Out the front doors.

To the truck.

In the truck, Yeah!!!

Up early and off to the gym.

So, it's not working to get to the gym three nights a week so, I have decided to go two mornings a week. Today was my first day. I went to "body pump" I thought that it was going to be a step and weight class. As it turns out it was only a weight class. Ow,I would just like to say the my biceps are a little wobbly, I wasn't sure I could lift the IV bags today. And doing lunges with weights has made my bum hurt some as well. However, I did get a good work out and plan to go again on Thursday. I am continuing with the Tai Chi class on Monday nights, as I really really like that one. I think it is time for a hot bath and some Advil.

Poor Robert his work is never done.

Emaline visits during our t-shirt class.

Emaline came to quilt with her mom this Saturday. She spent some time on her quilt with Sabueso, waiting patiently to confiscate her horse. She played some and Sabueso was left without the prize of the horse.
It is always fun to have Emaline come for a visit with her mom.
Everyone is making progress on their quilts, woo hoo!

Today is the one year anniversary of owning this building.

Wow, a lot has happened in the last year. We bought this building, sold our house, quit our jobs and moved to Augusta. We have torn out, rebuilt, sanded, stained, tiled, painted and torn out, rebuilt, painted, sanded, stained and tiled even more. We have made lots of changes and been changed ourselves. We have made "new" friends and tried hard to maintain "old" friendships. There are still times I wonder "what we were thinking" and "do we really want to do this". Last week was one of those weeks, this week however is better. So, we will continue to plug away and there will no doubt be more tearing out, rebuilding, sanding, staining, painting and maybe even tile-ing in our future.

Let the work begin on the shop.

Woo Hoo!

Just when you think the chaos is contained.

Just when I think we are done living in chaos we paint another room. Here's the wall color in our bedroom. We still have the baseboards to put on so we are sleeping with everything else in the pile in the middle of the room.
Thanks, Robert for painting while I was away on a quilting retreat!

Now, if we actually get some blinds and/or curtains we will be oh, so close to being really done upstairs.
Here's where the two colors come together.

Missing my Mom.

Today I wrote the date in a chart at work and my breath caught it is my Mom's birthday. I lost my Mom almost five years ago after a brief illness. She went to the hospital and never came home. She told my Dad before they left for the hospital that she wouldn't come back home. Strange how some people just know. Sometimes when I look in the mirror I see her smiling back at me. And, as I age I think my hands look more like hers except she had beautiful long, polished nails, my nails are neither. My Mom did beautiful hand work so to celebrate her and the add my craft to hers, I used the dresser scarves to make a two memory quilts. One for me and one for my daughter. It was good therapy to make these quilts. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM. I MISS YOU.

My quilt, done with a purple border, because purple was my Mom's favorite color.
Megan's quilt, done with a blue border because blue is Megan's favorite color.

Quilt retreat weekend.

Beth and I went to the mountains of North Carolina to finish a couple of quilts we started last year. As, usual we way under estimated the amount of work we could get done in one weekend. We each finished one quilt, but we didn't even sew a stitch on the other. Here's our work station.

Beth's finished top.
My finished top.

Fire and ice.

Because we had some snow outside.....
Beth built us a roaring fire.

Stolen trailer.

Sunday morning while walking the dogs, Robert discovered that our trailer had been stolen. The cable had been cut and left and the trailer taken away. Robert filed a police report and we have the vin number, but the chance of getting it back is slim. It is a bummer as we use it to take our motorcycles to Roswell when we get the opportunity to ride in the mountains. It had sat untouched, but obviously not unnoticed in the parking spaces since we moved here. I guess it was just too much of a temptation for someone. It makes me sad and a little angry that it was stolen. Bummer.

Verge

Our friends Matt and Lara have started a downtown newspaper called Verge. It is a great paper with lots of positive info and articles about downtown Augusta.
Drew wrote and story about places downtown called "discover downtown". (page 9)
We wrote a story in the "your space" section about renovating our building. (page 29)
Here's the online version.
So, read it and go downtown and enjoy the places you have read about.

The Pizza Joint.

Tonight was such a lovely night that we walked the 10 or so blocks to the Pizza Joint for dinner. We took the dogs with us and sat out in the patio area. As it turns out we were not the only ones who thought this was a good idea as the patio area was full and there were several dogs there too. There was one little terrier who squeezed through the bars off of the deck area and came to meet our dogs. It was funny as he had tried several times to get through and finally made it. The only bad part about walking to the Pizza Joint is that we have to walk home and I was tired. But, once again it was such a lovely night that the walk home was nice as well. Hopefully the long late-ish walk will have the dogs tired out and they will sleep in tomorrow.

The accent wall gets painted.

After Robert worked all morning at a service project for the Well and for Miracle Ministries, and I worked at MCG we came home and painted the accent wall in our bedroom. Here's is the first coat.

This is the finished wall. I'm glad we decided to paint the two little walls. I took this picture at night so it seems pretty dark. But, I will say I love the color of the Merlot and I am excited to get the other walls done.
