Feeling urban.

Tonight felt very urban at our loft apartment in downtown Augusta. First we carpooled to and from work. When we got home we went to the gym, then to the grocery store, once we were back home I cooked dinner and Robert walked the dogs. Then we ate at 7:00, which is late for these western people. Feels kind of like a new stage of life. And work, the gym and the grocery store are all within 4 miles of our house.

I'm not in local government anymore...

Two recent events that wouldn't happen in a city or county government: (1) I was walking around Open Heart Recovery with 10 beds full of mostly older men who have just come out of surgery, talking to nurses about computer problems. (2) Yesterday I came out of the bathroom across from my office and Funeral Home people are wheeling a body past me. Robert

More color choices.

Here is the color I chose for the bathroom. Robert graciously painted it the Saturday I worked at Blue Magnolia. I really don't like it. It is too yellow. The darker color is the color our bedroom is going to be the lighter color is the color the trim was going to be. Now I think I've decided that the light color will be the wall color and the the trim will be white.

Here are the color choices for our bedroom. The "Merlot" color will be an accent wall. The wall the bathroom and closet doors are on.
The "oak cask" will be the other three walls. The ceiling will remain white.

Any thoughts? I would love to hear your thoughts, before I actually paint every wall.

You never know what color hair I may come home with.

I am really a lowish maintenance kind of girl.
So, I asked Lauren to go back to my natural color. I really hate it when the roots are darker than the rest of my hair. Anyway it is back to being dark and it has more of an angle on the cut,

Three things that are discouraging about my job.

Late week, which was last week.
Triage week, which is this week.
and my weekend on call, which is this coming weekend.
Bummer.

Tax return.

With our tax return this year we are going to buy windows. Not just ordinary windows because our house is in the historic downtown area. No these are, "new made to look old more than twice as expensive" windows. I am excited about them though, I know it will help the the street noise and the utility bills. And the added bonus that they will look fabulous.

The quilting machine.

We brought home the HQ 16 this weekend. I have missed quilting. It has been in the good care of my friend Debbie since we moved the end of June. I have missed her as well. I really don't have a great place to put it as the third bedroom is too small and it is the "fun house" room as the floor is not level. Drew is still in his bedroom, I can't really kick him out just to set up the machine....so, the master bedroom it is. Poor Robert he is being overrun with sewing, quilting, fabric, cutting boards, iron, ironing board and...Now I feel great pressure to get the room painted so we can get stuff in order again and I can set the machine up and quilt the t-shirt quilts from the t-shirt quilt class and the patchwork hearts and...

Scrappy heart squares.

I did manage to get all 36 of my scrappy heart squares done this week though. It is a fun quilt, I am looking forward to getting it completely together and quilted.
Now really I am off to dreamland.

Late week.

This is my late week at work, which means that I and another nurse have to stay until the last patient goes home or is admitted to the floor. In the big scope of things work a late week every six weeks is no big deal. However, I don't bounce back from 10 hour work days like I used to. So, Robert has been totally in charge of dinner all week. Bless his heart. I have come home eaten and sat on the couch for a little while and gone to bed. And I have been waiting for baskets to go on sale at Hobby Lobby and they are on sale this week, so I am hopeful that if I get out of work before 6:00p.m. then I could run to Aiken and get these baskets I want for my bathroom. Well, tonight that happened. I got out at 5:40 came home scarfed down dinner and went to Hobby Lobby. I save Robert a lot of money tonight. One of the funny things is when Robert was making mac and cheese to go with our dinner, he added salsa. (out of habit of making queso) So, that added a little spice to our dinner. As of now I am up 27 minutes past my bedtime. Good night.

Robert teaches at the Well.

Last Sunday Robert spoke on parenting at our church the Well. He did a really great job. I'm proud of him for stepping out of his comfort zone and teaching. I'm excited about the Well and what God is doing downtown. It is great to be part of a body that loves Jesus and others.

Retail.

I got to spend the day at the Blue Magnolia. It is an unusual gift shop downtown that our friends Lara and Matt Plocha own and operate. They took a much needed weekend off, so I got to try my hand at running the store. It was fun. I enjoyed talking to all the people that came in and offering my help. (such as it was) And I got to try my hand at retail. And I came away with a couple of great items as well. :-) Thanks Lara and Matt for letting me spend the day at the store.

A place to wear my dress.

For Valentine's Day Robert took me to La Maison for dinner. It was a lovely 4 course specialty dinner for Valentine's Day. It is quaint old house that has been converted into a resturant, therefore it had lots of character. It was a little strange to think that we live just down at the end of the block from the resturant. We didn't walk however as I was in heels. I also woke up to a dozen roses and a print out for a new lap top that I can use for the quilt shop. I guess it qualifies as an official gift, as it doesn't have a cord. Thanks honey.

A funny thing happened while blogging.

While blogging the other day, I could hear something in the bathroom........as it turns out my short legged dog can get into the claw foot tub (who would have thought). On the bright side if she is ever lost and there is a random tub, she will be able to get a drink of water.

From Motorcycles to sewing machines.

It was such a beautiful day that Robert and I went on a motorcycle ride. We went to Waynesboro. We thought we could have a cup of coffee downtown and then head home. As it turns out, they roll up the streets on the weekend and neither sandwich shops were open. Bummer. It was a lovely day for a ride none the less.

The afternoon was spent at home for the second t-shirt quilt class. It was fun. Rhende brought her Mom, which was nice. We got all the fabric cut and the lay out of the quilts designed. Rhende got one row done and felt like she could sew the rest at home.

Katie had never sewn a stitch before, so she started out very tentative and by the end of the afternoon she was zooming right a long. She got all of her rows sewn together.

Holly had not been able to make the last meeting so she got all of her shirts cut, fused and cut again.

It was lots of fun, I'm looking forward to the next time we get together.

You know you're middle-aged........

I was using the magnified lighted mirror to pluck some stray eyebrow hairs when I noticed that I have a gray eyelash on my bottom eyelid. Man, gray in my temples and the top of my head is one thing, but a gray eyelash seems like quite another. Good thing a little mascara will cover it up.

Hooky.

I took the day off today. The plan was to go to Atlanta, but I really wanted to be home this weekend. I took a long bath in my claw foot tub and read this morning and then off to meet Lara at the New Moon Cafe for coffee. It turns out that she couldn't stay though as her husband is sick and she had to go open the Blue Magnolia. I ran a few errands and then entended to spend the rest of the day at my sewing machine. Well, I texted Megan and asked her to skip class and go shopping with me. The amazing thing was she had her phone on and said she would be willing to skip her afternoon classes. Woo Hoo! We spent the afternoon shopping and shopping and shopping. Then we had dinner together. I bought a pair of dress jeans in a size smaller than the last pair of jeans I bought. Woo Hoo, for the the girl with no rhythm that continues to go to step class! It may not have been the most productive day off, but it was a great day all the same. However, looking at the picture I am glad I got the dress even though I don't have anywhere to wear it, at least it adds some color to the basic black rut I seem to be stuck in. Oh, and I did get some polka dot drinking glasses as we have gone on a drinking glass breaking spree.

Highlighter infraction.

Getting carried away with a highlighter while "studying" causes Tallulah to have a green snout.

More IV sticks.

Robert volunteers to be stuck.

Look at the prfessional taping job.
The proud IV starter.

Now it's Megan's turn, she let me stick her, so she would know what getting an IV feels like.
I stuck her with an 18 gauge, ouch!

1 hour fire wall.

We have found out lots of things in this endeavor to remodel the downstairs shop area. Like we have to have a one hour fire protection ceiling. So, if there is a fire we would have a little time to get out. We had to have an architect draw up official plans with an official stamp seal thing, so we could present them to the permit office before we can go forward with a building permit. It's official we have to have a drop down ceiling, which bums me out a little as I wanted the height and the duct work to be exposed. The good news is we will have some time if there is a fire. The other bonus is it will be a good sound barrier as well and we won't hear the pitter patter of dog paws on the floors. Another bonus is that it should help a lot with heating and cooling costs. It is kind of fun too to have a real blue print drawing. And it is another step closer.

New phone numbers.

Robert and I changed our cell phone numbers to area code 706. Mostly because it was a long distance call from our jobs if they needed to reach us on our cell. And partly because it was time. It was harder than changing our land line for some reason. It is another step in the "we have moved to Augusta" adventure. Anyway here's to having a 706 area code.
