Drew experiments with light and camera speed.

Drew in his cave of a room experiments with a flashlight and shutter speed on the camera. He told me it is a new form of art called light art.
Pretty cool.

Different colors using different glow sticks.

Using a flashlight. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I know it has to do with how fast light travels.

The tile is done.

The tile is done except for the grout. It had to be ordered, so we are at the mercy of Lowes. I can hardly wait for it to be finished.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Last year it finally dawned on me that it is not wise for me to have a live tree with all of my allergies and asthma. I'm congested and miserable the whole time the tree is in the house. So, this year we bought an artificial tree. It is quite a change after 26 Christmases of finding just the right live tree. There are some advantages, like no watering, no pine needles to vacuum, and it already had lights on it. So, with Christmas music playing and a pine scented Yankee Candle burning we hung all our ornaments on the tree, talking about memories of Christmases past. It was fun to hang my new Nativity quilt by the tree. Finding a space for all or even most of my Nativity sets is proving to be a challenge. The Willow Tree one is in the background on the bookcase. I do love that set and will probably leave it up after Christmas is over. I can't wait to get the lights on the house. Nativities and Christmas lights make me smile.

The view out our back door.

I love fall, the colors and the crispness of the air. The weather has been lovely here, and we have had our doors open. I am amazed sometimes at the beautiful color of the trees right outside our door.

A Psalm of thanksgiving.

Psalm 100
A psalm of thanksgiving.

1 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
3 Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation

First couple of days at work.

This week I started my real orientation to the Comprehensive Cancer Clinic. I really do think I will like it. I am still completely overwhelmed with the chemotherapy part, but I'm sure I will get the hang of it. I remember being pretty overwhelmed and freaked out when I started in the recovery room as well. I did get a cool new rack and basket for the back of my bike to carry my back pack in. It helps a lot to not have the backpack on my back. And, though MCG health inc. is a great place to work the parking is terrible. I have to park blocks away and take the shuttle or walk. So, it literally takes me the same amount of time to bike to work as is does to drive; even more incentive to bike to work.

Surprise!!!

I got a call from Robert asking me what I was doing, I told him I was getting ready for bed. I was expecting him to be in the airport in Arizona, but when I asked him what he was doing he said he was walking into our front door!
Yea! Robert's home!!!

I got a call from Drew today.......

I got a call from Drew today, he was at work and he had locked his keys in his car. He asked me if I could come and bring his spare set of keys to unlock his car. I had showered when I got home from work and put my flannel pj's on. I told him I wasn't getting out of the car because I didn't want to get dressed. At the last minute I decided to get put on real clothes. I stepped out of the house and the second I shut the door, I realized I had locked my keys in the house! (Good thing I threw some jeans on) I called Megan, (who was at dinner with her friend Amber) to ask her to come and me into the house. She kindly did. During the time of waiting I called Robert, who is still in Arizona to tell him my tale of woe. He told me that the spare keys to Drew's car were in the top drawer of his dresser and not the ones on the key holder. It's a good thing I called him or I would have gone all the way to Drew's work with the wrong set of keys. So, much for a relaxing evening......

First Afternoon at the Cancer Clinic.

I finished my computer training today and so I got to go the cancer clinic for the afternoon. Here are a couple of thoughts about it.
I was welcomed by all the nurses, and given the low down on all the doctors.
I saw a brochure that belongs to the quilt guild I am a member of, which made me excited, Maybe we make lap quilts for patients. That would be great!
I was totally overwhelmed with all the names and the thought of giving chemo-therapy.
I did get to see a bone marrow aspiration, and biopsy. ( I hope I never have to have one)
The head nurse made sure I was included in the ordering for the pre-Thanksgiving lunch tomorrow. Yea.
I am looking forward to continuity of care with the patients, and getting to know them. One of the patients, brought in pictures of her granddaughter today and was bragging on her. I really enjoyed that.
Tomorrow, I am wearing my UGA scrubs. I hope there are some Bulldog fans!
Hopefully it won't be long and I will be familiar with and to the people I work with and take care of.

I'm tired of being the new girl.

One of the hard things for me, with moving is being the new girl. And since I worked in a "float" position at MCG, I was the new girl lots. This week I find I am again the new girl, however I am in an orientation class full of new people. One of which is a new nursing graduate. (Hallelujah I am not that new) Tomorrow is my last day of orientation and I will once again be the new girl, in a new place. For, now though I'm going to be the old girl at my house, with my family.

First Day of Orientation.

WOW, I had forgotten just how exhausting getting all the info for insurance, security, parking, infectious disease, and all the stuff it takes to start a new job was. It's a good thing I rode my bike as it was a long day of sitting and listening. One nice thing is they provide lunch on the first day and the managers come over and eat with the new employee. That was a nice. I am excited looking forward to starting the actual job. I know this is short, but I need to turn off the computer and get ready for bed.

I miss Robert.

Robert is in Arizona visting with his parents. His Mom is in the hospital and will probably being going to a rehab situation from there. It's the first time I have here without him. I thought I might be a little nervous, but I really haven't. I really miss him though.

Working in Atlanta.

This week since I was between jobs I got to work a couple of days at the surgery center. It was again good and bad. I loved being back there, I love the people I work with. Don't get me wrong the organization is a great one, but it is the people that kept me there. Both the kids and the staff. It was comfortable to go back. It is a familiar place and job. I had lots of fun and caught up with the lives of my friends that I miss. I felt confident with my abilities as a nurse. Which will be in stark contrast with Monday when I start a new job, at a new place with a new set of people and learn a new set of skills. I am however, looking forward to the starting and to a time that it too will be familiar and comfortable.

Quilt Guild.

Tonight I went to Pieceful Hearts Quilt Guild, in North Augusta. At first I felt nervous and lonely. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to stay. It made me miss my friends and I wished they were here to go with me to the guild meeting. However, the women were very friendly, and most of them made sure to meet me. One of the members, Betsy sat next to me filled me in on everything that was going on. It was fun. They talked about the Christmas party which would be the December meeting, bring a covered dish and an ornament. Several of them said I should be sure and come. They finished the business part of the meeting, then they had show and tell. Which of course I loved. As, I got to see several quilts and bags and a jacket the the members had finished. Then there was a demo on making an ornament. All in all I found the group warm and easy to talk to. So, I joined and I am looking forward to going to the Christmas party next month.

Again; you might be a redneck...

If you can sit on the tub in your bedroom and work on the computer.

Let the bathroom tile begin.

Robert's diagram of how the tile will be laid out. Drawn on the wall between the two windows.

This is what he got done today. Yipee!

Today is a day of songs that speak to me.
Here's another one.

East to West

Casting Crowns is one of my favorite bands. I feel like their songs capture the heart of God and man.
I love this song. It reminds me that in this life of struggle, that it not about who I am, but Whose I am and that all my efforts to be worthy and good are in vain. It is because of Jesus and the gift He gave of Himself.

Psalm 103

Of David.
1 Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits-
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6 The LORD works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel:
8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
9 He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are like grass,
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
the LORD's love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children's children-
18 with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
19 The LORD has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Praise the LORD, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word.
21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
22 Praise the LORD, all his works
everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the LORD, O my soul.

Here's what happens when you help with shop demo Saturdays.

The dogs sure enjoy snooping around and running around the shop on demolition Saturdays. However, they like us are always filthy when we get done. So, they have to get a bath. As you can tell this is not one of their favorite ways to spend their time. Poor dogs.

Shop Demolition Saturday Number Two.

Today we worked on taking out the old cooler. The white parts are porcelain so, we tried to save what we could to see if we might have some use for them when we get to the rebuilding part of putting the shop together.

Pretty scary taking all this stuff off.

This is as far as we got today. Just getting the porcelain off and getting the paneling and frame off of the top, which was used for storage. We found a wire basket that I think I can clean up and use to put patterns in. It is interesting. We found a really old metal tape dispenser and an old air compressor. Nothing that we could sell at auction for lots of money so we can retire. Oh, well we will continue to look.

First Fridays.

On the first Friday of the month there is an event downtown called "first Friday" There are bands and vendors and the shops are all open. It is fun. Last night we walked downtown with the dogs and ate at a place called Blue Sky. We ate out at tables on the sidewalk, since we had our dogs with us. Drew met us there after a long eight hour work day. (yea! eight hours of work!)He drove since he was on his feet all day. Amazingly he found a parking place relatively close to Blue Sky. It was a beautful evening and we ran into people that we know which is always fun. Our worhip leader Jason played with one of the bands it was great. (Jason is on the right) Anyway, we stayed for a while and kept the dogs with us instead of sending them home with Drew. A good time was had by all. The dogs were both so tired from all the walking that they came home and "fell out" on the couch and in the hall. It was funny.

Bathtub dreamin'

Look the master bathroom is coming along. The open door is the water closet. The door is on and the plumbing is ready to be hooked up. We decided to just put a primer on the walls, as I'm not sure what color I would like to paint the room. I think I am going to wait until we get the master bedroom done and play off of that.

Look cool new dual shower heads. (I tend to hog the hot water) Now, we can share nicely.

Though the shower is nice, I really can't wait until the tile is done and the tub is in........
Doesn't it look nice now that it is no longer the yellow tubmarine.
